How it works

Animation is a complex process and it can be a little daunting if you’ve never tackled an animated film project before. We take you through all the steps necessary to make a short film. There are three main stages in the process:

1. Script

What is the story you want to tell? We will help you develop your ideas and hone them into a tight, punchy script. We live in a world of short attention spans and we think that small is beautiful and short is good.

2. Storyboard and visual development

Once the script is approved, we will start to work with you to develop the look and feel of the film. What style of animation do you like? What other films do you admire and enjoy? We’ll tailor a style to fit your needs. At the same time, we will create a storyboard for you, telling the whole story of the film in pictures, like a children’s book. We edit the pictures together as a movie, cutting in sound effects, temporary music and narration. The filmed version of the storyboard is called an animatic, and it is this that will determine the overall length, flow and rhythm of the film.

3. Final animation

This is the slow and painstaking part. Animation takes a while and we want to make sure that everything is working at stage 1 and 2 so you’re completely happy, before we embark on the animation process. We will show you the animation work-in-progress at various stages to make sure you are happy, before we deliver the final product as a high resolution digital movie file.
